Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has named a 55-man provisional squad ahead of next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with key figures like William Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Stanley Nwabali leading the roster.
The announcement marks the official start of Nigeria’s final preparations for the 35th edition of AFCON, where the Super Eagles will aim to reclaim the continental crown last won in 2013.
European Stars and Domestic Talent in the Mix
Chelle’s provisional squad features a mix of established stars from Europe’s top leagues alongside standout domestic players:
- Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye (Udinese), defenders Zaidu Sanusi, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, midfielders Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, Raphael Onyedika, and forwards Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Simon Moses, Chidera Ejuke are all included.
- Demonstrating confidence in homegrown talent, Chelle also selected Nigeria Premier Football League players such as Abdulrasheed Shehu, Ebenezer Harcourt, Ekeson Okorie, Chisom Orji, and Adekunle Adeleke.
A final 28-man squad is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
Super Eagles Camp and AFCON Group
The team will open camp in Egypt on 10 December, playing warm-up matches before heading to Morocco. The tournament kicks off on 21 December.
Nigeria has been drawn into Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
