Nigerian actor Taye Arimoro has rejected the disciplinary action announced by several professional guilds within the film industry following a dispute during the production of the movie Pieces of Love.
The controversy emerged after the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the Directors Guild of Nigeria, and the Association of Movie Producers announced a suspension against the actor in connection with an alleged altercation on set.
Arimoro, however, has publicly disputed the decision through his legal representatives, arguing that the disciplinary action lacks validity.
One of the points raised by the actor’s legal team concerns an error in the official suspension notice, where his name reportedly appeared incorrectly.
According to Gossip News Now, Arimoro’s lawyer also argued that the actor is not formally registered as a member of the guilds involved in the decision, meaning the organisations do not have authority to sanction him.
Because of this, the actor has demanded that the suspension be withdrawn immediately and accompanied by both a public clarification and a formal apology.
The legal team further warned that failure to reverse the decision could lead to legal action seeking substantial financial damages.
Disagreement Over Events on Movie Set
The dispute reportedly began during filming on November 11, when tensions arose between Arimoro and actress-producer Peggy Ovire.
Arimoro claimed that after completing his assigned scenes, he attempted to leave the set but was prevented from doing so because additional work was requested.
According to his version of events, the disagreement escalated into a confrontation involving members of the production team, which he alleges resulted in injuries.
However, Ovire’s representatives strongly disputed the actor’s claims, presenting a different account of the incident.
Her legal team stated that Arimoro was the one who allegedly initiated the conflict, accusing him of physically attacking both the production manager and the driver attached to the film crew.
Guilds’ Decision and Reactions
Following internal reviews of the incident, the three guilds concluded that Arimoro bore responsibility for the altercation and subsequently imposed an indefinite suspension on him.
At the same time, the organisations reportedly instructed Ovire to issue an apology for allowing the dispute to escalate beyond the production environment.
The outcome of the investigation has now become the subject of a wider dispute, as Arimoro continues to contest the authority and fairness of the disciplinary action.
Commentary and Analysis
Conflicts on film sets are not uncommon in fast-paced productions where multiple creative and managerial decisions must be coordinated under tight schedules.
However, disputes involving guilds often raise questions about professional membership, jurisdiction, and the role of industry organisations in resolving conflicts.
In Nollywood, guild bodies play an important role in regulating professional standards and mediating disagreements among actors, producers, and directors.
The ongoing disagreement between Arimoro, Ovire, and the guilds highlights the importance of clear contractual agreements and conflict-resolution mechanisms within the film industry to prevent disputes from escalating into legal battles.
