Remo Stars goalkeeper Serge Obassa has been included in Benin Republic’s 30-man provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Since joining Remo Stars at the start of the 2024/25 season, Obassa has quickly become a key figure for the Cheetahs. He is named alongside fellow goalkeepers Saturnin Allagbe and Dandjinou Marcel.

Head coach Gernot Rohr has retained several experienced players as Benin prepare for a competitive continental campaign. Captain Steve Mounie, Mohamed Tijani, Verdon Oliver, Djodel Dosou, Junior Olaitan, and Tosin Aiyegun all feature in the provisional squad.

Rohr is expected to trim the squad to 25 players ahead of a training camp in Ben Slimane, Morocco, beginning Wednesday, December 10. Benin will compete in Group D alongside Senegal, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Botswana.

Meanwhile, Barau FC’s technical adviser Ladan Bosso has praised the club’s supporters following their dramatic 3-2 home victory over Kwara United at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Barau FC, nicknamed the Maliya Boys, secured the win thanks to goals from Usman Maidubji, Muhammed Umar, and Stanley Oganbor, while Kwara United replied through Johnmark Aule and Chibuzor Ogbodo.

The team now prepares for a challenging trip to Maiduguri to face El-Kanemi Warriors this weekend. Bosso credited the fans for their role in the victory and emphasized the need to tighten the team’s defense ahead of the next match.

“From the start, my boys were hungry for the win. The fans’ support was crucial—they kept encouraging the players even when we faced challenges. It’s all part of motivating the team,” Bosso said.

“Mistakes are inevitable. The goals we conceded weren’t deliberate, and we will address these lapses before our next game against El-Kanemi Warriors.”
