Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred conversation with claims that support within the Nigerian music industry is often purely transactional.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, the Zazu crooner stated that he has personally assisted more artists than fellow stars Olamide, Don Jazzy, Wizkid, and Davido. He insisted that his support extends beyond the industry to helping the less privileged.

Portable argued that many celebrities only help upcoming artists for business gain and often brand them “ungrateful” once they choose independence.

He explained:
“Many Nigerian celebrities don’t even repost fans dancing to their songs or promoting them. But I repost every positive video about me. Even with your money, many celebrities won’t allow you to feature as an upcoming artist. But I help people freely. I have helped more people in the music industry than Don Jazzy, Olamide, Wizkid, and Davido.”

Portable added:
“Help is when you see a homeless person and take them home, shelter them, clothe and feed them. You also take them to their first studio session and pay for it. Anything else is just business. A lot of the people claiming they are helping others in the music industry are only doing business.

“Most of the time, when the artists they use for business decide to be independent, they label them ungrateful. How are they ungrateful? You only used them for business.”

With these remarks, Portable continues to fuel debate over mentorship, altruism, and transactional relationships in the Nigerian music scene.
