Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has dismissed reports claiming he spoke negatively about the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or its opposition coalition.
Some earlier publications alleged that Obi criticised the ADC for unresolved issues relating to zoning and rotation of political offices, reportedly quoting him from a YouTube interview by a channel called Advocacy for Good Governance.
In a statement issued on Friday by his spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, Obi said the claims were entirely false and deliberately fabricated.
Umar stated:
“The Peter Obi Media Office (POMO) is compelled once again to refute the false and malicious claims circulating about an interview supposedly granted by Mr Peter Obi. We categorically deny any report suggesting he granted such an interview or made negative remarks about the Action Democratic Congress (ADC).”
He clarified that Obi holds deep respect for the ADC under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark, noting that the claims run contrary to Obi’s consistent record of advocating cooperation with groups committed to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
The statement added that Obi’s recent engagements have focused on unity in tackling poor governance and economic hardship, not attacking other opposition parties.
Umar urged the public—especially ADC leaders—to disregard the reports as fake news spread by political actors seeking to distort facts and divert attention from the fight against bad governance.
