Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has warned that his side will need to be at their best in the 2026 World Cup after being drawn into Group C alongside Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti.
The draw, held on Friday, paired the five-time champions with Morocco, who made headlines by reaching the semi-finals in Qatar 2022. Scotland return to the World Cup after a 28-year absence, while Haiti make a rare appearance on the global stage, their first since 1974.
“Morocco were very good during the last World Cup,” Ancelotti told Brazilian broadcaster Sportv, acknowledging the early challenges his team will face. He also stressed the importance of not underestimating Scotland, adding:
“Scotland are a solid team, very solid, (it will be) pretty difficult.”
Brazil will open their campaign against Morocco on 13 June, face Haiti six days later, and close the group stage with Scotland on 24 June. Ancelotti emphasized the importance of starting strong:
“We have to prepare well and try to win the group.”
The Seleção have experienced a turbulent period since Qatar, going through four different coaches. Their struggles were highlighted in March, when they suffered a 4-1 defeat to reigning world champions Argentina in a qualifier.
History, however, provides some reassurance. Brazil previously faced Morocco and Scotland at the 1998 World Cup, defeating Morocco 3-0 and Scotland 2-1 on their way to the final, where they lost to hosts France 3-0. Six years later, Brazil recorded a 6-0 victory over Haiti in Port-au-Prince, featuring stars such as Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.
