The spokesman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has sharply criticized Monday Okpebholo over his recent comments linking northern kidnappings to an alleged political plot.
Okpebholo had suggested that the surge in kidnappings and killings across northern Nigeria was part of a coordinated attempt to destabilize the country and undermine the administration of Bola Tinubu. He also likened the situation to events during the tenure of former president Goodluck Jonathan, claiming the alleged perpetrators were positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
Responding in a post on 𝕏, Abdullahi described the governor’s remarks as careless and troubling, especially at a time when families are still grieving and pleading for the release of kidnapped victims.
He said, “Governor Monday Okpebholo’s comments are not just careless; they are disturbing. Families are still crying, still waiting, still begging for their children to return home. Instead of providing real answers, this APC government is busy spinning conspiracy theories.”
Abdullahi argued that such rhetoric exposes deeper problems within the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that leadership should rely on hard evidence, intelligence, and clear solutions—not speculation.
He added, “When a government replaces evidence-based analysis with baseless accusations, we have a serious issue. Does this governor even realise that the same individual accused of weaponising insecurity against former President Jonathan is the one in power today?
“How can a self-respecting public figure talk like this?”
