‘We Prefer Silence, Not Noise Like PDP’ — NNPP Affirms Readiness for 2027 Elections

The New Nigeria Peoples Party has rejected claims that it is holding private political discussions with the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that the party remains focused on strengthening its own political platform.

Speaking about the party’s current direction, NNPP National Chairman Ajuji Ahmed clarified that the organization is not involved in any behind-the-scenes negotiations with the presidency. According to him, the party’s leadership is concentrating on building its structure rather than pursuing secret political alliances.

Ahmed stressed that the NNPP’s strategy revolves around expanding its presence across Nigeria and positioning itself as a credible alternative in future elections. He emphasized that the party’s leadership has no interest in compromising its independence through arrangements that could weaken its political identity.

Addressing speculation about political alignments in Kano politics, the chairman argued that seeking support from the ruling All Progressives Congress would damage the NNPP’s chances in Kano State rather than strengthen them. He maintained that electoral success will ultimately depend on the will of voters rather than alliances with larger parties.

The NNPP leader also pointed to the party’s ambition of contesting the presidency in the next election cycle. In his view, the organization has already laid down a working structure across multiple states and local governments, which he believes places it among the most organized opposition parties in the country.

Presidential Ticket Open to Interested Aspirants

Ahmed revealed that the party has not closed the door to potential presidential contenders who may wish to run under its banner in 2027. He explained that the selection process will be guided by the party’s leadership institutions rather than the influence of any single political figure.

Although Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remains one of the party’s most prominent personalities, Ahmed insisted that decisions regarding presidential candidates will be made collectively by the party’s National Working Committee.

Opposition Crises Are Self-Inflicted

The NNPP chairman also weighed in on the ongoing tensions within some opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party.

Contrary to claims that external forces may be fueling instability within these groups, Ahmed argued that internal disagreements are usually the root cause of such conflicts. According to him, strong internal unity would make it nearly impossible for outside actors to destabilize any political party.

NNPP Chooses Strategy Over Public Drama

While discussing the party’s political posture, Ahmed suggested that the NNPP prefers a more restrained approach to politics. In his view, some parties spend too much time engaging in public disputes rather than focusing on long-term organization.

He explained that the NNPP is intentionally maintaining a low profile while quietly preparing its political structures and strategy ahead of the next general election cycle.

Commentary and Political Analysis

The remarks from the NNPP chairman highlight a growing competition among opposition parties as Nigeria gradually moves toward the 2027 elections. With several political groups attempting to rebuild after the 2023 polls, questions about alliances, leadership influence, and internal unity have become central to national political discussions.

Political observers say Ahmed’s comments reflect a strategy of presenting the NNPP as a disciplined and organized alternative within the opposition landscape. By distancing the party from both coalition negotiations and public disputes, the leadership appears eager to portray the NNPP as stable and strategically focused.

However, analysts also note that maintaining political silence can be both an advantage and a risk. While it may signal strategic planning, it can also make it harder for parties to capture public attention in Nigeria’s highly competitive political environment.

As debates about coalitions and party realignments continue, the NNPP’s approach of quiet preparation may become clearer as the country moves closer to the next electoral cycle.
