The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, has dismissed speculations that the party is engaging in secret talks with President Bola Tinubu or the Presidency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an interview, Ahmed emphasised that the NNPP remains fully independent and focused on strengthening its structures nationwide.

“I can tell you for free that the national leader of the NNPP is not romancing or holding any conversation with either the President or the Presidency. This is a genuine statement, not a political one,” he said.

Ahmed further stated that the party is not seeking political alliances to secure Kano State in 2027, insisting that the electorate will determine the outcome. He argued that aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would undermine the party’s prospects.

“I don’t believe that because we want to be successful, we have to join the APC. Joining them will guarantee our failure in Kano,” he told The Nation.

The NNPP chairman outlined the party’s long-term goal of expanding nationwide and competing strongly for the presidency. He claimed that, outside the APC, the NNPP is the only political platform with a truly functional structure across states and local governments.

Ahmed confirmed that the party remains open to all aspirants interested in contesting its 2027 presidential ticket. While acknowledging the influence of former Kano Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, he stressed that party decisions will not revolve around a single individual.

“He is not the deciding factor. The deciding factor is the NWC of the party. He knows that and will respect it,” Ahmed said.

Responding to suggestions that the APC might be fueling conflicts in opposition parties, Ahmed disagreed, asserting that internal weaknesses are the true cause of turmoil.

“Whatever party is in crisis, it is in crisis due to its own internal contradictions. If parties like the PDP and Labour Party were internally united, no outside force could break them apart,” he said.

‘We Prefer Silence, PDP Prefers Noise’

Looking ahead, Ahmed said the NNPP is deliberately keeping a low profile, while the PDP and Labour Party appear distracted.

“We prefer to be silent than to be noisy like PDP because they are noisy for all the wrong reasons. We are silent for all the right reasons,” he said.

He added that the party will reveal its plans at the appropriate time, and critics will eventually understand its strategy.

“You will come back later and say, ‘you told me so,’” he confidently concluded.
