Sevilla striker Akor Adams has recorded a surprising statistic this season, emerging as the player with the most offside calls across Europe’s top leagues.

The 24-year-old has been flagged offside 19 times in La Liga from 757 minutes across 13 appearances, seven of which were starts. This places him ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé, who has been caught offside 16 times while leading the scoring charts with 16 goals in 16 matches.

Across Europe, only Fiorentina forward Moise Kean matches Adams’ tally, though Kean’s 19 offsides came over 1,157 minutes in 13 Serie A starts. In other leagues, Bundesliga striker Deniz Undav has 11, Premier League forward Evanilson has 12, and Ligue 1’s Mohamed Kader Meite has six.

While the stats underline Adams’ aggressive movement on the shoulder of defenders, his attacking output has been modest. He has scored two goals and provided one assist this season, registering 14 shots with five on target. His last goal came in early October during Sevilla’s 4-1 victory over Barcelona, and he has now gone seven matches without scoring.

Despite the drought, Sevilla continue to rely on him to lead the line. Adams played the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw with Valencia on Sunday and remains a central figure in the club’s plans heading into the winter break.

His progress at club level has also bolstered his standing on the international stage. Adams has scored twice in his first four caps for Nigeria and has been included in Eric Chelle’s provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

He is set to make his final appearance of the year for Sevilla when they host Oviedo on Sunday before joining the Super Eagles for his first major tournament.

The striker has openly discussed the disappointment of missing the 2026 World Cup after Nigeria fell to DR Congo in the play-off final in November. He earned his first senior call-up in October for the qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, scoring on his debut from the bench. He also opened the scoring in Nigeria’s semi-final win over Gabon before a frustrating outing against DR Congo in Rabat, where he came on early for the injured Victor Osimhen.
