The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has intensified its preparations for the 2027 general elections by inaugurating a new committee to oversee the party’s operations in Delta State.

The event, held in Asaba, brought together party leaders and supporters who reaffirmed their intention to strengthen the party’s presence across the state and position it as a strong political contender in future elections.

During the ceremony, officials of the party made it clear that the newly established committee has been tasked with expanding the party’s structures and engaging communities across the state.

Mandate of the Newly Inaugurated Committee

According to party leaders, the committee’s responsibilities extend beyond administrative duties.

Its core objectives include building the party’s grassroots network and ensuring the ADC becomes visible and active in every part of Delta State.

Among the immediate assignments given to the committee are:

  • Establishing functioning party offices in local governments, wards, and polling units
  • Launching grassroots awareness campaigns to promote the party’s ideology
  • Mobilising citizens to participate in the party’s political activities
  • Strengthening organisational structures in preparation for upcoming elections

Party officials believe these steps will help expand the ADC’s influence in the state.

ADC Criticises Current Political Leadership

Speaking at the event, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, expressed concerns about the current state of development in Delta.

He noted that despite the state’s considerable economic resources, progress in infrastructure and governance appears limited.

Abdullahi argued that Delta should be experiencing significant transformation given its wealth and strategic importance.

He suggested that the situation highlights the need for a new political direction.

Vision for Governance

The ADC spokesperson explained that the party’s broader mission is to reshape how politics is practiced in Nigeria.

According to him, the party intends to promote governance based on fairness, transparency, and accountability.

He emphasized that these principles form the foundation of the party’s long-term political agenda.

Abdullahi also indicated that the ADC aims to challenge the current political leadership at both the federal and state levels, including President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in the next election cycle.

Questioning Current Political Performance

During the address, Abdullahi raised questions about whether the ruling political parties have significantly improved living conditions for residents of Delta State in recent years.

He suggested that if citizens believe the current leadership has not delivered sufficient progress, they may consider alternative political options.

In his view, the ADC intends to position itself as that alternative.

Message From National Leadership

The event also featured remarks from the party’s national leadership.

Senator David Mark, the National Chairman of the ADC, was represented by Babachir Lawal, who urged members of the newly formed committee to adhere strictly to the party’s rules and constitution.

He cautioned party officials against engaging in practices that have often undermined political parties, such as corruption, manipulation of party primaries, and the sale of political tickets.

Lawal stressed that the credibility of the party depends on maintaining discipline and transparency in its internal processes.

Encouragement for Niger Delta Members

Also speaking at the event was the party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South region, Usani Uguru Usani.

He encouraged members in the Niger Delta to remain committed to the party’s vision despite past political setbacks.

According to him, sustained dedication and unity among members will help the ADC build a stronger political platform in the region.

Composition of the Delta Committee

The newly inaugurated committee includes several prominent political figures from the state.

Among those involved are Chief Great Ogboru, a former governorship candidate under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 elections, and Deacon Kennedy Pela, among other notable personalities.

Their inclusion reflects the party’s attempt to bring experienced politicians into its growing structure.

Commentary and Analysis

The inauguration of the Delta State committee represents part of the ADC’s broader strategy to expand its political footprint ahead of the 2027 elections.

Political parties often begin grassroots mobilisation years before elections in order to build support networks and recruit influential figures within each state.

For the ADC, the challenge will be transforming its organisational efforts into real electoral influence.

Building functional structures across wards and local governments is essential for any party hoping to compete effectively against established political organisations.

If the party successfully strengthens its presence in Delta and other states, it may become a more prominent player in Nigeria’s political landscape.

However, achieving this goal will depend not only on political messaging but also on the party’s ability to maintain internal unity, transparency, and credible leadership as the next election cycle approaches.
