Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Kylian Mbappé is fit and available for Sunday’s La Liga trip to Alavés, handing the Spanish giants a timely boost as they look to arrest a concerning run of form.
Mbappé missed Wednesday’s Champions League defeat to Manchester City, a result that compounded Madrid’s struggles and left them with just two wins from their last eight matches across all competitions. The poor run has increased pressure on Alonso, with speculation growing around his future.
“We’ve got Kylian back, he’s ready to play, and tomorrow we’ll decide if he starts. That’s obviously good news,” Alonso told reporters on Saturday.
Madrid travel to Vitoria with a depleted squad. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal and Eduardo Camavinga are all sidelined with injuries, while Fran García, Álvaro Carreras and Endrick are suspended. However, there is some defensive encouragement, as Dean Huijsen is expected to return for what could be a crucial fixture.
“Despite the players we’re missing, we still have a strong squad and a strong team,” Alonso added.
Real Madrid currently trail La Liga leaders Barcelona by four points, highlighting a season that has lost momentum in recent weeks. Nevertheless, Alonso remains hopeful that the challenges could ultimately strengthen his side if they manage to turn things around.
“We are going through a difficult period, but we can grow from it. If we get through this phase and change the dynamic, in a few weeks we might look back and say we endured a lot, but it made us stronger,” the coach said.
