The Accord Party leadership in Osun State has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning to organise an unlawful parallel governorship primary following the emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the party’s candidate for the 2026 Osun State election.
In a statement, the Osun State Chairman of the Accord Party, Victor Akande, accused the APC of attempting to sow “seeds of disunity, confusion and chaos in the state under the guise of our party.”
Akande described the alleged plan as yet another tactic by the APC, which he said is struggling with internal instability amid what he termed the growing acceptance of Adeleke across the state.
Gossip News Now recalls that a faction of the Accord Party had earlier protested Adeleke’s emergence as the party’s candidate, claiming that the national leadership led by Barrister Maxwell Ngbudem lacks legal recognition.
However, Akande maintained that Adeleke’s declaration for and affiliation with the Accord Party has significantly boosted his popularity and public support throughout Osun State.
According to him, the APC’s alleged actions are driven by its inability to compete with the political momentum, support base and influence enjoyed by Adeleke.
He said, “The APC is sponsoring one of its card-carrying members to masquerade as an Accord aspirant in a deliberate attempt to create crisis within our party and the state at large.
“We are a law-abiding, democratic and peace-loving political party. Only processes recognised by the appropriate national leadership of the party are valid. Therefore, any primary election or aspirant outside this framework is invalid, null and void.
“We call on security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant authorities to take note of this unfolding plot aimed at undermining public peace. Osun State has moved on.”
