Renowned American wrestler John Cena has officially retired following his final match on Saturday, December 14, 2025.
The announcement was confirmed in a statement by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), marking the end of a 20-year in-ring career that played a central role in the company’s global growth.
Cena’s farewell bout featured a showdown against GUNTHER at Saturday Night’s Main Event, following the conclusion of the “Last Time Is Now” tournament. The tournament was held to determine Cena’s final opponent, with GUNTHER emerging victorious to set up a clash between two wrestlers representing different eras and styles within WWE.
While Cena built his legacy on a power-driven wrestling style and a long-standing connection with fans, GUNTHER is celebrated for his technical precision and physical intensity. Ahead of the match, the Austrian wrestler emphasized that sentiment would not influence his performance, promising a decisive contest rather than a ceremonial send-off.
This bout marks Cena’s final in-ring appearance, capping a career that includes 16 recognized world championship reigns and numerous headline appearances at major events, including multiple WrestleManias. Beyond wrestling, Cena has successfully expanded his career into film and television, further cementing his status as one of WWE’s most iconic figures.
