The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially released the squad numbers for Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
Talismanic striker Victor Osimhen will retain his iconic number 9 shirt, while newly appointed captain Wilfred Ndidi continues with his customary number 4 jersey. Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been handed the prestigious number 10 shirt. Regulars Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, and Frank Onyeka will keep numbers 7, 11, and 8 respectively.
New call-ups Salim Fago, Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Ryan Alebiosu, and Tochukwu Nnadi will wear numbers 25, 26, 27, and 28.
The Super Eagles are targeting their fourth AFCON title and will kick off their campaign against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in Fès next Tuesday.
Defender Calvin Bassey, speaking ahead of the tournament, expressed confidence in Nigeria’s chances. “Yeah, 100%. I think during the last AFCON I was 23. I’ve matured, many of the team have matured, and we’ve gained a lot of experience,” Bassey told Fulham TV.
Bassey, who featured in Nigeria’s narrow 2-1 defeat to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the previous edition, will be representing the Super Eagles in a major tournament for the second time. With former captain William Troost-Ekong now retired, Bassey and Semi Ajayi are expected to anchor Eric Chelle’s defence.
