Jake Paul was taken to hospital following his six-round defeat to former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Miami, after sustaining a suspected fractured jaw.
The 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-professional boxer displayed grit and determination, holding his own in the early rounds despite Joshua’s superior size, power, and experience. However, as the fight progressed, the former heavyweight champion’s strength and physical dominance became decisive, leaving Paul overpowered by the sixth round.
Paul admitted post-fight that he feared a broken jaw, a concern later confirmed by promoter Nakisa Bidarian, who noted that Paul would require medical evaluation and could be sidelined for four to six weeks.
Despite the setback, Paul remained positive about his future in boxing. “I feel good. It was fun, and I genuinely love this sport,” he said, sharing graphic images and videos on social media that highlighted the physical toll of the fight.
The former cruiserweight contender insisted the loss would not derail his ambitions, revealing plans to rest briefly before returning to the ring. His long-term goal remains a cruiserweight world title.
“We’ll heal the jaw, come back stronger, and fight opponents in my weight class. Anthony Joshua is a great champion. I lost, but that’s part of boxing. I’ll return and keep pushing forward,” Paul said.
Reflecting on the bout, Paul acknowledged the challenge of managing Joshua’s size and weight. “I got tired trying to manage his size and weight. With better conditioning, I think I could have lasted longer. I gave it everything I had,” he added.
The defeat serves as another learning curve for Paul, who insists he remains committed to proving himself at the elite level of professional boxing.
