President Bola Tinubu has described his path to the presidency as a journey filled with “numerous obstacles,” attributing his rise to perseverance, strategic allies, and divine guidance.

Speaking on Friday during the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Tinubu reflected on the challenges that marked the run-up to the 2023 general election.

He highlighted a period of severe economic and social difficulties, including food shortages, the currency redesign policy, and fuel scarcity that left Nigerians enduring long queues at petrol stations. Many citizens, he noted, struggled to afford even a single meal daily.

“I faced obstacles on my path to the presidency,” Tinubu told the gathering, adding that his eventual victory was a result of divine intervention. “God brought us here. I am a symbol of that God because, without Him, I wouldn’t be here.”

The President also acknowledged the support of key allies, including Governors Buni and Uba Sani, who were aware of the magnitude of the challenges during his campaign.

“There was a wildfire, currency redesign chaos, and endless queues at filling stations. People died from hunger due to cash scarcity, all for one election,” Tinubu said.

Emphasising gratitude and faith, Tinubu encouraged Nigerians to remain steadfast despite the country’s ongoing challenges. He called for unity, tolerance, and resilience to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy.

“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy we have taken into our hands must not fail,” he stressed.

Tinubu also highlighted the importance of inclusive leadership, urging leaders to show accommodation and compassion, especially during difficult times. Using a metaphor, he called on citizens to support one another, noting that mutual aid strengthens society.

Cautioning against the imposition of will in governance, he remarked, “God creates the opportunity for individuals, and if God says you will be there, you will be there.”
