Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong has opened up about a traumatic experience from his university days that significantly altered the course of his life and faith.

Gossip News Now reports that the actor, in an interview with Taymesan, disclosed that he was expelled from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, after being falsely accused of belonging to a cult.

According to him, the accusation came as a shock and left him emotionally devastated, especially as he maintained that he was innocent.

Following his expulsion, Etim-Effiong relocated to Jos, Plateau State, where he said he experienced a sense of freedom mixed with anger and confusion.

He revealed that during that period, he took up habits such as smoking and womanising, which he attributed to frustration and deep disappointment with life.

The actor said the experience also strained his relationship with God. At the time, he was actively involved in Christian activities and belonged to a student fellowship.

He said he expected the fellowship to stand by him when the allegation arose, but was disappointed when they refused to support him or protest his expulsion.

The lack of backing from people he trusted left him hurt and discouraged, eventually causing him to drift away from church activities.

Recalling the experience, he said:
“That same year, I got expelled from the university for belonging to a cult. Which cult? I was a church boy.

“It was in Jos that I started smoking and womanising because I felt free, but I was also angry at God.

“I kept asking, ‘Why did you allow this to happen to me? I was an SU member and you didn’t even defend me.’

“I even told the fellowship in FUT Minna that they should protest, but they didn’t.”
