Amorim Worried About Lengthy Absence for Bruno Fernandes After Man United Loss at Villa

Ruben Amorim has expressed concern that Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes could be sidelined for an extended period following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Fernandes, who had started every league match this season, appeared to suffer a hamstring injury just before halftime at Villa Park. He initially tried to continue but was unable to return for the second half, raising doubts over his availability for upcoming fixtures.

Amorim has already confirmed Fernandes will miss the Boxing Day clash with Newcastle United and admitted there are serious questions over his participation in the remainder of the festive schedule.

“It’s a soft tissue issue. I think he’s going to miss some games. I don’t know for sure, so let’s see,” Amorim said.
“You never control these things. He’s always fit and recovers well, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

The setback adds to United’s growing injury woes. England midfielder Kobbie Mainoo was already absent against Villa with a calf problem, and he is now likely to miss the Newcastle fixture as well.

“I will see what we are going to do. Kobbie Mainoo is out, Bruno is out, so we’ll find solutions. No excuses. We need to win the next game, and we will try to win it,” Amorim stated.

Casemiro’s return from suspension offers some relief, but the squad remains stretched. Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui are away at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire are also unavailable.

The mounting absences have prompted speculation about January signings, but Amorim stressed that the club will not act hastily in the transfer market.

“We need to deal with this, but we cannot rush in January and make mistakes. We have a plan. If we have to suffer, the club comes first,” he said.
“Of course, we need points now, but we will find solutions and continue with our plan.”
