Media entrepreneur and political figure Dele Momodu has suggested that dissatisfaction exists within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress, even though many members do not voice such concerns openly.
Momodu, who is associated with the African Democratic Congress, made the remarks during an online discussion held on the social platform X.
Discussion on Nigeria’s Political Direction
The comments came while he was responding to questions during a conversation titled “Avrilsspace: The Electoral Mathematics for 2027.” The discussion focused on Nigeria’s political future and the strategies that could shape the next general elections.
During the session, Momodu expressed concern about the direction in which the country is heading under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, many Nigerians should be paying close attention to how political decisions within the ruling party may influence the nation’s trajectory.
Influence of Inner Political Circles
Momodu also argued that a relatively small group of individuals close to power often plays a major role in shaping important decisions.
He explained that this observation was not intended as a partisan attack, noting that some of the people he referred to are individuals he knows personally.
Private Conversations Reveal Different Views
One of the central points of Momodu’s remarks was that the public posture of some political figures may differ from what they say in private conversations.
According to him, several APC members have quietly expressed frustration or disappointment with the current administration when speaking behind closed doors.
He suggested that the difference between public statements and private opinions reflects the complex realities of political loyalty and power dynamics.
Public Praise Versus Private Criticism
Momodu compared the situation to political culture in Lagos, where strong public support for influential leaders is often displayed.
However, he claimed that private discussions sometimes reveal more critical opinions than what is presented in public forums.
Why Some Politicians Remain Silent
The politician suggested that personal interests may influence why certain individuals choose not to express their dissatisfaction openly.
In his view, some political actors maintain visible loyalty to those in power partly because they hope to benefit from opportunities that may arise within the system.
Commentary and Analysis
Momodu’s comments highlight a recurring theme in politics: the contrast between public loyalty and private skepticism. In many political environments, party members may avoid criticizing their leadership openly in order to preserve unity or protect personal relationships.
Such dynamics are not unique to Nigeria. Around the world, political parties often contain internal debates that remain largely hidden from the public.
At the same time, claims about internal dissatisfaction can also become part of broader political messaging, especially when figures from rival parties attempt to frame the ruling government as losing support.
Whether Momodu’s observations accurately reflect widespread sentiment within the APC remains a matter for political analysts and party insiders to assess. What is clear, however, is that discussions about governance, leadership, and the future of Nigeria’s political landscape are likely to intensify as the 2027 elections approach.
