Nigerian singer and filmmaker Dare Fasasi, popularly known as Baba Dee, has condemned the rampant corruption and mismanagement in Nigeria’s public services, highlighting his recent experience with the Lagos train system.
In an Instagram post, Baba Dee recounted that he had to abandon his car for the train while commuting in Lagos due to severe traffic congestion. To his shock, he found that train stations were out of Cowrie cards during December, one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
He also observed attendants openly collecting bank transfers into personal accounts to allow passengers to board, describing the practice as “daylight robbery disguised as public service.”
“People paid because they had no choice. This kind of gross mismanagement will kill train patronage in no time. Public infrastructure cannot survive when it’s treated as a personal cash machine,” Baba Dee wrote.
He further warned that corruption continues to undermine national development, saying,
“Corruption is our greatest nemesis as a people. Everyone manages to pervert any position they find themselves in, then we wonder why the country won’t develop. If we don’t call this out and demand accountability, we’re complicit. Nigerians deserve better.”
Baba Dee urged authorities to enforce standards, punish corruption, and restore trust in public systems to ensure infrastructure like the Lagos train service can operate effectively and serve the people as intended.
