The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cast doubt on the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chances of reclaiming the presidency in the 2027 general election, citing what he described as weak and unfocused leadership within the party.
Wike made the remarks during his end-of-year media engagement, where he argued that the PDP’s current leadership structure lacks direction, discipline, and the willingness to accept constructive advice.
According to the former Rivers State governor, the party’s inability to organize itself effectively could cost it another electoral cycle. However, he maintained that a political comeback remains possible if decisive steps are taken early.
Wike stressed that with purposeful and committed leadership, the PDP could rebuild and position itself strongly for a return to power by 2031.
He noted that leadership failure has been at the heart of the party’s struggles, adding that many of the current challenges were avoidable. Wike said he had repeatedly warned party stakeholders about the dangers of ignoring internal reforms and failing to make the right strategic decisions.
The FCT minister questioned whether party leaders were prepared to allow the PDP to deteriorate further or begin the difficult task of rebuilding ahead of the next election cycle.
Emphasizing the importance of accountability, Wike warned that poor leadership decisions inevitably come with consequences, whether in politics, governance, or organizational management.
