A senior figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has criticized the ongoing dispute between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the situation as a public embarrassment for the party.
The former allies have been at the center of recent controversies linked to the PDP’s internal leadership struggles, drawing widespread attention and concern within political circles.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Bode George appealed to both men to de-escalate tensions and prioritize the unity of the party.
“I want to advise both of them to put an end to these distractions,” George said. “Politics requires maturity. Whatever disagreements exist should be handled within the party framework.”
Meanwhile, Wike has accused Makinde of harboring resentment over his failure to secure a ministerial appointment under President Bola Tinubu.
The FCT minister made the allegation on Monday in Port Harcourt, while responding to criticisms reportedly directed at him by the Oyo State governor.
According to Wike, the issue was discussed within the influential G-5 group, which comprised himself and former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu). He said the group later met with President Tinubu, who acknowledged the grievance and promised to address it.
“When we reached an understanding, Seyi’s major concern was not being appointed as a minister,” Wike claimed. “You could clearly sense his anger, and we had to ask him to remain calm.”
He added that their visit to the president was partly motivated by the matter, noting that Tinubu admitted there were factors he may not have initially considered.
Wike further recalled an incident during a political gathering in Port Harcourt, where discussions about supporting the president for a second term reportedly triggered a sharp reaction from Makinde, who openly questioned the suggestion through the media.
The disagreement between the two prominent PDP figures continues to fuel debate about internal cohesion within the opposition party.
