Authorities in Ghana have confirmed the detention of Evans Eshun, widely known as Ebo Noah, amid heightened scrutiny of online activities ahead of New Year’s Eve religious events.

The arrest was executed by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team and announced in an official statement on the Ghana Police Service website on Wednesday. While officials confirmed the detention, they did not disclose the specific allegations or the details of the conduct under investigation. The action is part of broader efforts to prevent online content that could create public panic or unrest during sensitive periods.

“The Ghana Police Service confirms that Evans Eshun, also known as Ebo Noah, has been arrested by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team,” the statement noted. “This is part of our ongoing monitoring of cyber-related activities, particularly ahead of 31st night religious services.”

Public attention has focused on Eshun following his viral December claims about an impending apocalypse. He attracted widespread coverage after unveiling a large wooden structure, called the Ebo Noah Ark, predicting a catastrophic flood on December 25. He asserted that the ark was built according to divine instruction and warned of three years of heavy rainfall unless people repented.

In a follow-up video last week, Eshun stated that the predicted calamity had been postponed following his days of fasting and prayer. He claimed that divine guidance indicated the ark was already full, requiring additional time for the construction of new arks.

Police confirmed that Eshun remains in custody to assist ongoing investigations. No charges, court dates, or bail terms have been issued at this time.

The Ghana Police Service urged citizens to remain calm and avoid speculation. Authorities stressed that any legal proceedings would adhere strictly to due process, and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
