The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is set to strengthen its political presence in Delta State as Hon. Ken Pela, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, prepares to formally join the party.
According to reports from New Telegraph, Pela will make his defection official on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in a ceremony expected to attract leading ADC officials as well as influential political figures from across the South-South region.
Political analysts suggest that Pela’s alignment with the ADC marks a pivotal moment for the party, particularly with the 2027 general elections approaching. The move is widely interpreted as a reflection of shifting alliances and a reshaping of the state’s political landscape.
In a statement released by Pela’s media team, it was emphasised that the decision to join the ADC reflects confidence in the party as a citizen-focused alternative to the dominant national parties. The statement also highlighted Pela’s attraction to the ADC’s principles, including issue-driven governance, internal democracy, accountability, and purposeful leadership.
Observers note that Pela’s entry is likely to strengthen the ADC’s grassroots network in Delta State and improve its competitiveness in the upcoming elections. Political strategists believe that his presence could provide a substantial boost to the party’s efforts to engage voters and expand influence in key local government areas.
“This alignment underscores the growing appeal of the ADC as a credible political option for leaders committed to results-oriented governance,” the statement added, signalling optimism for both Pela and the party’s broader objectives.
With Pela now part of the ADC, party insiders are confident that this development will energise members, attract new supporters, and position the ADC as a formidable force ahead of 2027. Analysts see this as a key step in reshaping political dynamics in Delta and the wider South-South region.
