Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and ex-governor of Kano State, is currently engaging leading opposition figures as preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.
A source close to Kwankwaso told Leadership that the politician has been holding discussions with key opposition leaders in a bid to forge a united front against the ruling party.
According to the source, Kwankwaso has met with Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Amaechi, and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the insider said these consultations are part of broader efforts to build a cohesive opposition coalition.
“Kwankwaso is a politician. He is talking to all the groups. I know he is talking to ADC people, he is talking to Obi, he is talking to Amaechi. He is talking to the PDP,” the source explained.
The source added that Kwankwaso is also liaising with leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition figures, noting that the discussions are ongoing.
“We are discussing with a view to bring all the opposition together,” he said.
The insider further revealed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is playing a role in the emerging opposition movement, alongside other prominent Nigerians dissatisfied with the current administration.
“It is not only Obasanjo. All Nigerian leaders are unanimous about a change in government. Everybody believes that the current administration is not performing well,” the source said.
He explained that Obasanjo’s name often comes up due to his readiness to speak openly on national issues.
“The reason Obasanjo is mentioned is because he is the only one that is outspoken,” he added.
