The grieving family of late Afrobeats sensation Destiny Boy has appealed to the public for assistance following the unexplained disappearance of the musician’s Sport Utility Vehicle shortly after his death.
In an emotional video circulating online, the singer’s father, Afeez Adeshina, expressed deep concern about the whereabouts of the car, stating that the vehicle vanished under circumstances the family still struggles to understand. According to him, the SUV was reportedly returned to a car dealership days after the artiste passed away, yet efforts to recover it have proved unsuccessful.
Adeshina explained that he personally witnessed the purchase of the vehicle from a Lagos-based automobile company, Lycon Autos. The dealership, he said, arranged for a driver to deliver the newly acquired car to their residence, after which the same individual continued working as Destiny Boy’s personal driver.
The situation reportedly became complicated when the driver later claimed that the late musician owed him outstanding payments. The father alleged that, without informing any member of the family, the driver returned the SUV to the dealer, creating confusion over ownership and access to the vehicle.
He further revealed that the family has been unable to establish direct communication with the driver involved, adding that retrieving the car would have been straightforward if proper contact information were available. His public appeal was therefore directed at Nigerians who might assist in tracing either the driver or the vehicle.
The controversy surrounding the missing SUV emerged only days after the shocking death of Destiny Boy, who died at the age of 22. His passing triggered widespread reactions across the music community, with fans mourning the loss of a promising young talent.
Earlier disclosures by the singer’s mother, Saida, shed light on his health struggles prior to his death. She explained that her son had battled a long-term illness locally referred to as “Ogu oru,” a condition associated with recurring seizures that the family had managed privately for years.
According to her account, the family pursued multiple avenues in search of treatment, combining medical attention with traditional and spiritual interventions in hopes of stabilising his condition. She said the decision to keep the illness confidential was made to protect his career and public image as his popularity continued to grow.
Saida also addressed rumours circulating online, firmly rejecting claims linking her son’s death to ritual practices. She described such allegations as painful misinformation that added to the family’s grief during an already difficult period.
Commentary and Analysis
The unfolding dispute over Destiny Boy’s missing vehicle highlights a common challenge faced by families after the sudden death of public figures—managing personal assets amid emotional distress and incomplete documentation. Situations involving drivers, managers, or third-party handlers often become complicated when clear ownership records and communication channels are lacking.
Beyond the property issue, the revelations about the singer’s health struggle have also sparked conversations about the pressures young entertainers face in maintaining public personas while dealing with private medical conditions. Many artistes choose secrecy to protect careers, yet this often fuels speculation when tragedy occurs.
The incident further underscores the influence of social media in shaping narratives around celebrity deaths. Unverified rumours can spread rapidly, forcing grieving families to publicly defend the truth while coping with loss.
As investigations and clarifications continue, the family’s appeal reflects a broader call for empathy, transparency, and responsible public engagement when dealing with sensitive situations surrounding bereavement and personal property.
