Reality TV star Phyna has sparked widespread reactions online after a video of her discussing marriage laws went viral.
In the video, the former BBNaija winner expressed her desire for legal reforms that would allow women the same marital freedoms currently afforded to men.
Phyna argued that women should not be limited to a single spouse while men are legally permitted to take multiple wives. She explained that, if the law were adjusted, women should have the right to marry as many husbands as they wish.
Using herself as an example, Phyna revealed that she would like to marry up to five men, treating each equally in terms of lifestyle and material provisions.
“All the men would wear the same clothes and enjoy the same standard of living, without any discrimination,” she stated.
She also pointed to practices in other countries, including India, suggesting that Nigeria could implement a system allowing women to have multiple husbands if they choose.
Phyna described herself as ready to embrace polygamy under such a law and encouraged women to be bold and united in advocating for similar changes.
She said, “See, the only thing I want now is that they should just change the law. I go marry like five men, you dey whine? I go buy the same clothes for all of them, the five of them. I’m going to be a polygamous woman. Then we go come buy Sprinter. Instead of Sienna, we’ll go buy a Sprinter.”
