Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, with the transfer reportedly valued at around £500,000, as the club acts quickly to address a sudden goalkeeping shortage.
The urgency for a new goalkeeper intensified after John Victor suffered a severe knee injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Initially linked with Wolves’ Jose Sa, Forest shifted their focus to Ortega, and talks have progressed rapidly.
The 33-year-old German international currently sits third in Manchester City’s pecking order behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford, without featuring for Pep Guardiola’s side this season. With Ortega’s contract set to expire in the summer, Forest view the move as a low-risk addition to their squad.
Since joining City in 2022, Ortega has made 56 appearances and played a pivotal role in the club’s 2024 Premier League title-winning campaign. He featured in 22 matches last season, including appearances in the Club World Cup and the FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace, showcasing his experience at the highest level.
Beyond bolstering the goalkeeping department, Nottingham Forest are exploring reinforcements in midfield as well. Manager Sean Dyche is reported to be negotiating with Inter Milan over a loan move for Italy international Davide Frattesi, which would include an option to buy. Frattesi, 26, has earned 33 caps for his country and made 19 appearances for Inter this season.
Forest have also strengthened their attacking options, completing the loan signing of Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca. Meanwhile, a £35 million bid for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta was recently turned down.
Currently sitting 17th in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest are preparing not only to stabilize their domestic form but also to focus on upcoming Europa League play-off matches.
