ADC Chairman Blames APC for Nigeria’s Woes at Policy, Manifesto Committee Inauguration

At the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Policy and Manifesto Committee, Senator David Mark, the party’s National Chairman, placed the blame for Nigeria’s current economic and social struggles squarely on the APC-led government. He warned that under the current administration, Nigerians are enduring unprecedented hardship.

Mark emphasized that citizens are no longer interested in political blame games. Instead, they seek leaders who can provide concrete solutions to ease their suffering and guide the nation toward recovery.

“Nigerians are working harder but earning less. Prices for basic necessities are rising faster than incomes, and electricity remains unreliable despite soaring tariffs,” he noted. “Meanwhile, taxation increases and insecurity continue to disrupt everyday life and economic activity.”

The former Senate President challenged committee members to dig beneath surface-level policies and tackle the root causes of Nigeria’s long-standing failures. He stressed that while the country is rich in ideas and plans, many well-meaning proposals have never translated into meaningful improvements for citizens.

“Policy is not about sounding clever or complex,” Mark explained. “It requires confronting systemic problems, thinking innovatively, and asking difficult questions about why solutions repeatedly fail.”

He highlighted key sectors that demand urgent attention, including energy, transport, agriculture, security, healthcare, education, and job creation. In each area, he argued, policies must be realistic, measurable, and directly beneficial to Nigerians.

For instance, Mark pointed out that unreliable and costly electricity reduces productivity, causes businesses to fail, and deepens poverty. Similarly, high fuel prices hurt families without providing compensatory benefits elsewhere. “People are asking one simple question: What would your party do differently?” he said.

On transport, he stressed that mobility is vital for accessing jobs, markets, schools, and healthcare. In agriculture, he noted that insecurity, poor infrastructure, and rising costs prevent farmers from producing efficiently while consumers face higher prices.

Security, healthcare, and education were described as foundational to national development. Mark argued that governance failures and weak institutions have prevented good ideas from improving lives. Policies must be tested against one key question: do they reduce suffering or merely rearrange it?

He concluded by reminding committee members that the ADC stands for people-centered governance. Nigerians already know who is responsible for their hardships; what they seek now are leaders with the vision, courage, and capacity to deliver tangible relief.

“Your role is not just to produce proposals, but to ensure they work. Listen to experts, farmers, traders, workers, parents, and young people across generations. Develop policies that provide immediate relief and long-term solutions,” he urged.

Mark officially inaugurated the Policy and Manifesto Committee, charging members to carry out their duties with moral clarity, intellectual rigor, and a commitment to national service. “May your work help build a party that understands Nigeria and a nation that can once again believe leadership can reduce suffering and restore hope,” he concluded.
