Media mogul Mo Abudu has revealed that she will not be using dance videos to promote her films, explaining that such promotional tactics do not align with her personality or strengths.

Speaking at the Lagos Business of Film Summit, Abudu discussed the evolving strategies for film marketing in Nigeria. She acknowledged the creativity of filmmakers like Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, who successfully use energetic dance routines to draw large audiences to cinemas.

Respecting Others’ Approach but Staying True to Herself

While praising their innovative methods, Abudu stated that she lacks the energy and skill to replicate such performances herself. She emphasized that she has already communicated to her team that dancing will not be part of her personal publicity efforts, leaving such tasks to others if necessary.

“I look at people, Funke and Toyin, and I’m like, I don’t know where they get the energy to do all of this,” she said. “I have told my team, me I can’t dance. So go and look for someone who will do the dancing because it is not going to be me.”

Embracing Individual Strengths in Film Marketing

Abudu stressed that there is no single formula for box office success in Nigeria. She encouraged filmmakers to understand their own strengths and focus on strategies that suit them, rather than imitating others, as audience tastes and marketing demands continue to evolve.

“We have to understand what it requires now for there to be a box office success in Nigeria,” she added, highlighting the importance of authenticity and self-awareness in film promotion.
