Political tensions within the Osun chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party have intensified following disagreements among party leaders over internal authority and future electoral strategy. Despite the ongoing crisis, the party’s recognized leadership has reiterated its backing for Governor Ademola Adeleke as he prepares to seek another term in office.

At the heart of the controversy is the contested attempt by a stakeholders’ group to remove Sunday Bisi from his role as state chairman. Bisi has firmly rejected the move, insisting it holds no legitimacy under the party’s constitution. Speaking publicly in Osogbo, he stressed that his leadership remains intact and cannot be overturned by any informal gathering lacking constitutional authority.

He emphasized that only recognized party institutions have the power to make decisions affecting elected officials, dismissing claims of his removal as invalid. According to him, the state executive committee continues to function normally, and its mandate remains legally binding.

Clarifying the party’s electoral stance, Bisi disclosed that the PDP had not presented its own candidate for the upcoming governorship election. Instead, the party leadership has resolved to support Adeleke’s re-election bid. He explained that this position reflects the current political reality and represents the consensus of the mainstream party structure within the state.

The chairman also addressed the broader implications of divisions within the PDP at the national level. He suggested that uncertainty surrounding the party’s internal stability influenced strategic decisions taken by the governor regarding his political future. Nonetheless, he maintained that most PDP officeholders in Osun remain loyal to the party and continue to recognize its leadership.

Bisi further criticized comments made by former Osun governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, describing them as contrary to the established leadership in the state. He alleged that such remarks reflect earlier political efforts aimed at undermining Adeleke’s rise to power and warned against actions capable of weakening party unity.

Meanwhile, Oyinlola defended the PDP’s continued relevance in Osun, stating that the party remains active and organized despite speculation about Adeleke’s political alignment. He explained that a recent stakeholders’ meeting was convened to clarify confusion and reassure members about the party’s stability at both state and national levels.

Rejecting claims that the PDP structure had been absorbed into another political platform, Oyinlola insisted the party’s presence remains strong across communities. He noted that the PDP’s nationwide reach ensures its continued survival and relevance, adding that the party remains open to future political developments, including the possibility of reconciliation.

The unfolding situation highlights a complex struggle over authority and loyalty within the Osun PDP, as leaders attempt to maintain unity while positioning themselves ahead of a critical electoral contest.
