The Obidient Movement has strongly rejected the CCTV footage released by Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, describing it as an unsuccessful attempt to damage the reputation of Peter Obi over the recent airport parking controversy.
The group argued that rather than proving any wrongdoing, the footage presented by the minister raised fresh questions and failed to support the allegations made against the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential hopeful ahead of the 2027 elections.
Movement Says Video Contradicts Minister’s Claims
According to Gossip News Now, the Movement, through a statement signed by its Media and Communications Directorate spokesperson, Yunusa Tanko, maintained that the CCTV recording did not validate claims that Peter Obi’s vehicle remained abandoned for an extended period.
Instead, the organisation insisted that the timestamps visible in the footage painted a different picture from the narrative presented by the aviation minister.
The group stated that the vehicle reportedly arrived at approximately 8:28 p.m., while enforcement officials clamped it only a few minutes later, arguing that this sequence directly contradicted assertions that it had been left unattended for around half an hour.
Questions Raised Over Airport Parking Allegation
The Movement further argued that the same CCTV recording weakened another allegation suggesting that Peter Obi’s vehicle obstructed access to the airport terminal.
According to its interpretation of the footage, another vehicle was able to stop behind Obi’s vehicle without any visible difficulty, an indication, it claimed, that traffic flow around the area was not disrupted.
It also insisted that the recording appeared to confirm that several vehicles occupied the same location during the incident, alleging that enforcement measures were applied selectively against the former Anambra State governor.
Criticism Shifts to Aviation Sector Performance
Beyond the parking dispute, the Obidient Movement questioned why significant attention was being devoted to Peter Obi instead of challenges confronting Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The group argued that passengers continue to face persistent concerns, including expensive airfares, operational delays, and infrastructure limitations at airports across the country.
It suggested that these sector-wide issues deserve greater attention from the ministry than political disputes involving opposition figures.
Political Motive Alleged
The organisation also claimed that the continued focus on Peter Obi reflects political anxiety rather than administrative responsibility.
According to the Movement, repeated public engagements surrounding the former presidential candidate demonstrate that he remains a major opposition figure capable of influencing Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
The statement further maintained that attempts to discredit him would not diminish public interest in national governance issues.
Commitment to ‘New Nigeria’ Agenda
Reaffirming its position, the Obidient Movement declared that it would remain focused on advocating for reforms despite what it described as politically motivated distractions.
In a reworded message, the group stressed that efforts aimed at discouraging supporters through propaganda or selective actions would not divert attention from pressing national concerns affecting millions of Nigerians.
It added that issues such as inflation, economic hardship, insecurity, and the rising cost of living remain the priorities that citizens expect leaders to address.
Analysis: Political Messaging Intensifies Ahead of 2027
The disagreement over the airport incident illustrates how routine events can quickly become political flashpoints as preparations for the 2027 general election gradually gather momentum.
While both sides continue to defend their positions, the controversy also reflects the increasing role of digital evidence, public perception and political communication in shaping national discourse. Observers believe similar exchanges are likely to become more frequent as political parties and key personalities position themselves for future electoral contests.
