Pastor Kumuyi Recalls the Message That Helped Him Move Forward
Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has recounted how he responded to the death of his wife in 2009, explaining why he stopped praying over the incident after what he described as an assurance from God.
The cleric shared the experience during a sermon published on YouTube, recalling the circumstances surrounding the loss and the personal decision he made afterwards.
How Kumuyi Received News of His Wife’s Death
Kumuyi said his wife died on Saturday, April 11, 2009, while he was away from home preaching at a programme.
According to his account, he received the news after ministering that morning and immediately rushed to the International Bible Training Centre, where he confirmed what had happened and met people praying.
The experience left him reflecting on the circumstances surrounding his absence. He said he had prayed before leaving for the programme but later felt he had failed to close what he described as a spiritual door before going out.
Why He Stopped Praying Over the Incident
The preacher said he believed the devil had taken advantage of his absence while his wife was facing a challenge at home. This was his personal interpretation of the events surrounding her death.
Kumuyi recalled that, after arriving at the centre, he received what he described as an assurance from God not to continue worrying about the incident.
He explained that he accepted the message and stopped praying over the matter. His account does not mean that he stopped praying altogether; rather, he was referring specifically to the incident surrounding his wife’s death.
Kumuyi’s Message About Letting the Past Go
Reflecting on the experience, the cleric said the assurance encouraged him to let go of what had happened instead of remaining preoccupied with the past.
He expressed the message in these words:
“The Lord assured me, ‘Let it go, let that go, don’t bother about it.’ The past is gone. Water under the bridge, that gone is gone.”
Kumuyi also said the experience strengthened his determination to ensure that a similar occurrence would not happen again.
Conclusion
Kumuyi’s account offers a personal reflection on grief, faith and how he chose to respond to the death of his wife. His testimony centres on the assurance he said he received and his decision to stop praying over that particular incident.
The experience remains part of the cleric’s account of how he dealt with a painful chapter in his life.
