Shaffy Bello Says Nigeria Remains Home
Nollywood actress Shaffy Bello has reaffirmed her connection to Nigeria, saying the country remains home despite the challenges people face while building their lives and careers there.
Speaking during a panel discussion at 20+ Years in the Media: Real Talk with Kike @7, Bello expressed confidence in the opportunities she continues to see in Nigeria, explaining why she does not wish to return to America.
“America trained me, but Nigeria made me,” she said, summarising the role both countries have played in her life.
Actress Acknowledges Nigeria’s Challenges
Responding to a question about what could give young people hope as they pursue their ambitions in Nigeria, Bello acknowledged the difficulties associated with living in the country.
She identified challenges involving electricity, education and healthcare but maintained that opportunities still exist for those willing to develop their abilities and make use of what is available to them.
“I pray I never get the opportunity, as they call it, to go back. Yes, you’ll say because I’ve done it before. I’ve been there before. Yes, I agree with that. But because of the opportunities that I’ve seen in this country, and I am still seeing, I don’t ever want to go back. This is home, this is where it is,” Bello said.
Her remarks reflected her personal view that Nigeria remains a place where people can pursue meaningful opportunities, even amid the country’s difficulties.
Her Advice to Young People: Develop Your Skills
Beyond sharing her perspective on Nigeria, Bello encouraged young people to identify their abilities, invest in learning and demonstrate their competence through their work.
She urged them to look inward, assess what they could offer and commit themselves to acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.
“Look within yourself, what do you have to offer? What is in your hands? Whatever it is that is in your hands to offer, study, learn and prove yourself worthy of it,” she advised.
The actress also highlighted authenticity as an important principle in sustaining a career, drawing on her years in the entertainment industry to explain why remaining true to oneself matters.
“For me to be here for so many years, first of all, I have to be authentic to who I am. If you lie, you keep having to remember the lies, if you tell the truth, it’s easy,” Bello said.
Her message placed emphasis on continuous learning, honesty and dedication rather than relying solely on the opportunities available to a person.
Shaffy Bello Emphasises the Importance of Faith
Bello also identified faith as an important part of her life, encouraging young people to hold firmly to their beliefs while working towards their ambitions.
She urged them to “hold God tight” as they navigate their personal and professional journeys.
Her message combined confidence in Nigeria’s potential with a call for young people to develop themselves, remain authentic and maintain their faith as they pursue their goals.
