Leloonu Nwibubasa, a former Rivers State Commissioner for Employment Generation and Empowerment, has criticised Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of interfering in Rivers State governance and refusing to step back from local politics.
Speaking live on Arise Television on Friday, Nwibubasa described Wike as politically overwhelmed, suggesting that the minister is deflecting responsibility for his current difficulties onto others.
He questioned why Wike, having completed an eight-year tenure as governor, continues to exert influence in the state instead of allowing governance to proceed smoothly under his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
“The FCT Minister constantly makes headlines for the wrong reasons, deliberately stirring political tension in Rivers State,” Nwibubasa said. He argued that Wike’s ongoing interference demonstrates hostility toward the current administration and involves unfair targeting of individuals who have no stake in Rivers State politics.
According to Nwibubasa, Wike’s conduct reflects political desperation rather than leadership, with the former governor seeking scapegoats for challenges he faces. “What we are witnessing is a man who appears to be politically drowning and pointing fingers at everyone else,” he remarked. “That, unfortunately, sums up the current situation in Rivers State.”
The former commissioner further cautioned Wike to exercise restraint, noting that his lack of formal party affiliation undermines his political legitimacy in Rivers State. He emphasised that continued domination without accountability only fuels instability and disrupts governance.
