APC Will Endure Beyond Tinubu’s Presidency — National Chairman Yilwatda

The All Progressives Congress (APC) will maintain its influence and stability even after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu leaves office, National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has affirmed. Speaking on Channels Television on Friday, Yilwatda dismissed concerns that the party’s future depends solely on any one individual.

“The APC existed before Tinubu, has thrived under him, and will endure after him,” he said, highlighting that Tinubu’s impact predates his presidency and has shaped the party’s structure and strategy over many years.

Yilwatda underscored Tinubu’s role in unifying the APC ahead of the 2015 elections, noting that his efforts brought together previously fragmented factions and created a winning political framework. He also recalled Tinubu’s leadership in 2019 when then-President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him to head a reconciliation committee aimed at resolving internal disputes within the party.

“When submitting the report, Tinubu said, ‘I have reconciled the numbers needed to win the 2019 election. With this, I am confident we can succeed.’ And indeed, the APC won,” Yilwatda emphasized, pointing out that Tinubu’s guidance was critical long before he became president.

Looking forward, the chairman stressed that Tinubu’s experience and nationwide network would continue to benefit the APC as a former president, providing strategic advice and political mentorship. “Now, as a former president, he will offer leadership to the party. Anyone entering the political arena will rely heavily on his experience, network, and the methodical political strategies he has employed for years,” Yilwatda explained.

He also dismissed concerns that Tinubu may struggle to secure northern votes in the 2027 elections, citing the APC’s strong showing in the August 2025 by-elections as evidence of broadening support.

“Before the by-election, critics claimed the APC could not win in the North, and the opposition promoted the slogan ‘anything but APC,’” Yilwatda noted. The results, he said, proved otherwise, with victories in Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna, Adamawa, Kogi, and Niger, losing only a single House of Assembly seat.

“The APC’s success cuts across religious and ethnic lines, demonstrating that our support base is broad and deeply rooted nationwide,” he concluded, reaffirming confidence in the party’s continued dominance beyond Tinubu’s presidency.
