The Federal Government has responded to circulating reports claiming that Nigerian scholarship students in Morocco have been abandoned, dismissing the allegations as unfounded and misleading. The Ministry of Education, through its Director of Press and Public Affairs, Boriowo Folasade, conveyed assurances that all valid scholarship beneficiaries continue to receive official support.
Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, clarified that every student admitted under the Bilateral Education Scholarship Programme before 2024 has been funded in accordance with government commitments through the 2024 fiscal year. He acknowledged that minor delays in payments are due to financial constraints but emphasized that inter-ministerial coordination is addressing these challenges.
Alausa also refuted claims regarding new scholarship awards purportedly issued in October 2025, describing the circulated documents as “fabricated and not officially recognised.” He stressed that these misleading reports are designed to create confusion and undermine public confidence in government educational policies.
The Minister highlighted that the decision to pause some foreign scholarship schemes followed a comprehensive policy review, which concluded that Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education now possess the capacity to implement equivalent programmes domestically. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of students and cautioned against spreading false information that could destabilize ongoing reforms.
He concluded by noting that the reforms are aimed at strengthening accountability, enhancing transparency, and ensuring the responsible management of public funds, reinforcing the Federal Government’s pledge to provide reliable and continuous support for Nigerian scholarship recipients.
