The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has renewed its call for enhanced welfare benefits for Nigeria’s security forces, emphasizing the need for better support for those safeguarding the nation.

In a statement released on Thursday to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Taminu Turaki highlighted the sacrifices made by military personnel who have lost their lives while carrying out their constitutional duties of defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Turaki stressed that members of the Armed Forces and other security and intelligence agencies deserve improved welfare provisions to effectively carry out their responsibilities in the face of mounting security challenges.

He also called for increased funding for all security institutions to strengthen national defence and operational capacity.

The party extended sympathy to families of fallen heroes and offered prayers that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.

Part of the statement read:
“As the nation commemorates the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of military personnel who lost their lives in active service while defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria.

“We take this moment to urge the Federal Government to provide better welfare packages for members of the Armed Forces and the wider security and intelligence community to enable them to perform their duties more efficiently. Additionally, we call for adequate funding of security agencies so they can neutralize threats and restore peace across the country.

“On this solemn day, we honour those who paid the supreme sacrifice for the unity and safety of our nation. We also caution both state and non-state actors against actions that could destabilize the country. In memory of our fallen heroes, we pray that their sacrifices will not be in vain and that their contributions will always be remembered.”
