Heavy Fighting Reported Between Lakurawa Group and Armed Bandits in Niger State
A violent confrontation has reportedly broken out between suspected Lakurawa fighters and armed bandits in the Tapkin Giyayya area of Mashegu Local Government Area, Niger State, with fears that several people may have been killed during the exchange.
According to breaking economic news , security authorities had not officially confirmed the casualty figures at the time of reporting, residents claimed the fierce gun battle left multiple fighters dead while others escaped with injuries.
Bandits Reportedly Entered Niger Through Zamfara Forest Route
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the incident in a post on 𝕏, said the confrontation began after a group of suspected bandits allegedly moved from forest hideouts in Zamfara State.
According to the report, the armed group reportedly travelled through the Tudun Magaji area before advancing into the Mashegu Forest, where they encountered members of the Lakurawa group.
The ensuing clash was said to have triggered an intense exchange of gunfire that lasted for some time.
Residents Report Casualties on Both Sides
Community sources claimed that both armed groups suffered significant losses during the confrontation.
Several fighters were reportedly killed, while others who sustained gunshot wounds were seen retreating from the area in an apparent attempt to escape the violence.
According to Gossip News Now, the exact number of casualties remains unclear as security agencies are yet to release an official assessment of the incident.

Bandits Also Attack Communities in Sokoto State
In a separate security incident, suspected bandits reportedly attacked Talluje and Chofi villages in Danchadi District of Bodinga Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
During the assault, the Chief Imam of Talluje village was reportedly killed alongside two other residents.
The attack also forced hundreds of villagers to flee their homes in search of safety as the armed assailants allegedly opened fire indiscriminately.
Livestock Rustled During Coordinated Assault
Local sources said the attackers stormed the two communities at about 4:00 p.m., with the violence reportedly lasting for approximately two hours before the gunmen withdrew.
In addition to the reported killings, the bandits allegedly fled with an unspecified number of stolen livestock after carrying out the attack.
The latest incident reportedly marks the third time within a few weeks that a Chief Imam has been killed during bandit attacks in Sokoto State, further raising concerns over the worsening security situation in the region.
