The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji, has called for calm and peaceful conduct among party members and supporters following the outcome of the poll.
Oyebamiji, in a post-election statement, also urged security agencies to investigate alleged attacks on APC members and supporters across the state.
He said the APC had hoped for a different outcome but would, for now, respect the position of the electoral body while the party reviews the election result.
Post-Election Reaction
Oyebamiji thanked voters who supported his campaign, as well as party leaders, members and volunteers who worked across the state.
He said their commitment to the development agenda presented by the APC remained appreciated.
“Although we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.
The former APC candidate added that although the campaign had ended, the issues and development objectives promoted during the election remained relevant.
He said the APC would continue working towards what he described as effective, inclusive and rapid development in Osun State.
What Oyebamiji Said
Oyebamiji also urged his supporters to remain engaged and vigilant while continuing to work for their communities.
He said:
“The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive.”
He further thanked voters, party leaders and volunteers for their sacrifices and support throughout the campaign.
Security Concerns
The APC candidate, however, raised concerns over what he described as growing hostility and violence against party members and supporters following the election.
According to Oyebamiji, attacks allegedly witnessed during the build-up to the election had taken another dimension in the 24 hours after the poll.
He therefore appealed to the Osun State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene.
“I urge all of you to remain calm and peaceful as you go about your daily activities in the post-election period,” Oyebamiji said.
“At the same time, I wish to alert the State Government and security agents to the growing trend of hostility and violence against our members and supporters.”
He called on the security agencies to act against what he described as an “ugly trend” without delay.
Looking Beyond The Election
Oyebamiji’s statement presents two immediate positions: respect for the announced electoral outcome while the APC reviews the result, and an appeal for peace and security in the post-election period.
His comments also indicate that, despite the end of the campaign, he intends to maintain attention on the issues and development objectives promoted by the APC during the election.
The allegations concerning attacks remain Oyebamiji’s account and would require confirmation from the relevant authorities to establish the full circumstances.
What Happens Next?
For now, Oyebamiji says he supports the APC’s ongoing review of the election outcome.
Attention will also remain on the response of the state government and security agencies to the allegations of post-election hostility and attacks raised by the former APC candidate.
Final Editorial Wrap-Up
Oyebamiji has acknowledged the election outcome while expressing support for the APC’s review of the result.
At the same time, he has urged his supporters to remain peaceful and called on security agencies to address what he described as attacks against APC members and supporters.
With the election now concluded, the focus shifts to the party’s review of the outcome, the post-election security situation and how political actors respond in the days ahead.
